The Clarendon Historical Society of Jamaica was set up in July 2026 after discussions in Jamaican Wales Alliance (JWA) with people brought together by Dr Vivian Crawford and included Fae Ellington, Melissa ??

The aim was to bring together everyone interested in exploring, recording and preserving the rich history and heritage of Clarendon.

The Society values community memories and oral histories alongside archival and academic research, recognising that Clarendon’s history is found in the experiences of its people as well as in official records.

We aim to encourage research, collect memories, photographs, and share discoveries through meetings, talks, exhibitions, publications and community activities. Our interests range from the earliest inhabitants of Clarendon, enslavement and plantation society to emancipation, land, agriculture, education, migration, religion, culture and community life.

CHSJ welcomes people of all ages, both in Jamaica and overseas, to contribute their knowledge, ask questions and help ensure that Clarendon’s many stories are preserved and passed on to future generations.

We may explore the possibilites of establishing a museum and archive in Clarendon - but that's in the future!
